iHealth Labs is a Mountain View, California based company that has built a glucose monitor that plugs into your phone. This is iHealth Labs’ second monitor. The first one was known as the BG5. The second one is known as the iHealth Align (BG1). The BG1 is white, compact, and sleek, which gives it an Apple-like design.
The BG1 can be plugged into the headphone jack of Android and iOS devices. From there, it stores and displays readings using the iHealth Gluco-Smart app. To have the BG1 read your blood glucose level, you can take a small blood sample from the fingertip, upper arm, or thigh using a lancing device and testing strip. The strip can be fitted into the top of the monitor device, which reads the sample and sends data to the app.
You can use the app to manage readings and track insulin. The data can also be shared with your doctor. ?For many diabetics, the cost and hassle of managing diabetes on a daily basis can be daunting, so we want to help make measurement and tracking as easy as possible,? stated Adam Lin, president of iHealth Lab.
The executive team at iHealth Labs plans to integrate the Gluco-Smart app into Apple’s new HealthKit software ecosystem.
iHealth is selling the iHealth Align for $16.95 from its website and through Walgreens.com. The app is available in Google Play and the Apple App Store. iHealth Labs is also selling the test strips for a reduced price now.
