The International Monetary Fund (IMF) was recently hit with a major cyberattack. The IMF is responsible for preventing financial problems across the world. The IMF also has tons of confidential information about the fiscal conditions of countries.

?This was a very major breach,? stated an IMF official. The breach took place even before French politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn stepped down for sexually assaulting a maid in a New York hotel. It in uncertain what kind of data that hackers were able to get their hands on to.

The attack was believed to be using a “spear phishing” technique. That means an individual from within the IMF clicked on a malicious web link or by running a program that opens access to the network of the computer.
