Influitive has acquired social inbox company Engagio. Engagio lets users track “online conversations in one place.” Influitive raised $7.3 million in funding this past December and the company’s founder Mark Organ sold his previous company Eloqua to Oracle for $871 million shortly after that. The terms of the cash-and-stock deal for Engagio was undisclosed. All 5 employees of Engagio including the founder and CEO William Mougayar will join Influitive. The technologies that Engagio developed will be integrated into Influitive’s AdvocateHub platform.
AdvocateHub is used by the company for brands to hire ambassadors to promote their product. Influitive believes that advocates could do better than a brand’s top salesperson.
Engagio has a service that resembled a Gmail-like inbox to monitor social conversations. The company launched a Chrome extension in spring 2012 that allowed Engagio users to read messages in a separate folder of Gmail. Users could track conversations on Facebook, Twitter, Disqus, Google+, Hacker News, Foursquare, LinkedIn, etc.
Mougayar will become the Chief Evangelist of Advocate Marketing at Influitive and he said that Disqus will be the first integration point with Influitive in an interview with TechCrunch.
Engagio had around 14,000 users as of the time of the acquisition and they have index 50 million comments from 110,000 websites. The company will not make any changes immediately for their user base. Engagio raised $540,000 in seed funding from Rho Canada with participation from Real Ventures, Extreme Venture Partners, Bullpen Capital, Fred Wilson, Mike Yavonditte, and other angel investors.
