Digital Publishing Company Inkling Raises $16 Million

Based in San Francisco, Inkling Systems has raised $16 million in venture capital funding.  Inkling has developed software for iPads that can turn textbooks into interactive e-books.  The e-books support zooming in on 3D graphics and the ability to listen to audio recordings that is linked to text.

Inkling has raised over $23 million from McGraw-Hill, Pearson, Sequoia Capital, Kapor Capital, Sherpalo Ventures, and Felicis Ventures.  Inkling founder and CEO Matt MacInnis used to be the Apple senior manager for education markets.
