Instagram Now Has Photo Tagging

Posted May 3, 2013

Facebook subsidiary and photo sharing social network, Instagram, now has the ability for you to properly tag your friends.  This new feature is called “Photos Of You.”  In the past, you would have to tag your friends in the comments section of a photo by using the “@” symbol.  Now you can tag another Instagram user simply by selecting a photo and clicking on “Add People.”  When you tap on the portion of the photo that you want to tag, Instagram asks you to “Search for a person.”  From there, the service will let you filter by your Instagram friends.

“Today, we?re excited to introduce Photos of You and bring you a new way to share and discover stories on Instagram. When you upload a photo to Instagram, you?re now able to add people as easily as you add hashtags. Only you can add people to your photos, so you have control over the images you share. And it doesn?t stop at people?you can add any account on Instagram, whether it?s your best friend, favorite coffee shop or even that adorable dog you follow,” said Instagram on their blog yesterday afternoon.

A “Photos Of You” section is now added to your profile so that when someone adds you to a photo, you will receive a notification.  That photo will appear in the Photos Of You section.  You can also adjust your settings so nothing appears on your profile until you approve.  That sounds like a great feature and should be added to Facebook.

Instagram has updated this feature in their Android and iOS app as version 3.5.  You can download it now from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
