Facebook subsidiary, Instagram is reportedly working on a video streaming service that would compete with Twitter’s Vine service. Sources with TechCrunch are reporting that Instagram and Facebook are going to let users take short videos within the Instagram app. The new service is expected to launch on June 20th during an event at their headquarters in Menlo Park, California.
Twitter’s Vine service launched in late January as a way to record and share videos that are up to 6 seconds long. Twitter acquired Vine in October 2012. Vine recently launched an Android app.
There was speculation that Facebook was going to launch an RSS reader that would be similar to Google Reader, but this does not make sense since the social network is not really in the business of syndicating news content for publishers.
Stay tuned to Pulse 2.0 to find out what the company is announcing on June 20th.
