Intel invested $740 million into Cloudera last week and received an 18% stake. Cloudera is a distributor of software that can compile Big Data. This values Cloudera at around $4.1 billion.
In the press release about the funding, Cloudera said that it completed $900 million in funding. The remaining $160 million was announced earlier in March from T. Rowe Price, Google Ventures, and several other companies.
Intel also made Cloudera its preferred distributor of “Hadoop” data management software. Intel will be transitioning away from its customized version of Hadoop that it was promoting as optimal for Intel server chips.
