Intel has recently invested in a Google Glass rival company called Recon Instruments. The investment will be used for Recon’s product development, marketing, and sales expansion. Recon said that they will be able to “benefit from Intel Capital’s expertise in manufacturing, operations and technology.”
Intel’s general manager of New Devices Mike Bell said “In Recon Instruments, we see compelling technology and a solid strategy to capitalize on the wearable revolution.”
Recon Instruments is known for building heads-up displays for sports like the Reconjet. Recon Instruments shipped over 50,000 heads-up displays globally so far. Many of them have been sold at Apple retail stores.
Intel has also recently invested in a wearable computing device company called Thalmic Labs.
