iPhone OS 3.0 To Be Presented On March 17

Just when you got comfortable with the iPhone 2.0 operating system, Apple is getting ready to launch a new version on March 17.  Apple is not likely to introduce any new hardware at the upcoming event.  Since Apple is hosting an event to present the new operating system, they are unlikely going to push it all on iTunes right away, just give a preview on what is to come in the summer.

VentureBeat points out that Apple did not host an event for the iPhone 2.0 software last year.  Since they are holding an event this year, it must be an indication that something big is going to happen with the new change.

It is expected that Apple will roll out some sort of background task manager.  Phones that are powered by Windows Mobile, Palm Pre, and Google Android have the ability to run multiple third party applications in the background whereas Apple’s operating system can only really manage one third party application at a time.  There is speculation that Apple will change background tasks.

Perhaps the iPhone operating system may be added to other hardware such as a tablet.  Earlier this month, Wintek stated that they are building larger touchscreens for Apple.

Thank goodness we only have to wait for 5 days to find out.
