Posted Aug 25, 2011

iRobot has received a $21 million order from the U.S. Navy to create 100 bomb disposal robots. iRobot’s The Man Transportable Robotic System (MTRS) MK 1 MOD 1 robot has worked in combat and can successfully dispose of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

?Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) remain one of the biggest threats to our forces overseas . iRobot?s unmanned ground vehicles save lives every day by providing our troops with the ability to identify and dispose of IEDs from a safe standoff distance. We are pleased that the Navy is continuing its investment in this technology,? stated Robert Moses, the president of iRobot?s Government and Industrial Robots division.
