Eighteen year old Jake Davis of the Shetland Islands is facing five charges that include conspiracy to mount a cyber attack against the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) website. The SOCA website was forced offline on June 20th after a DDoS attack.
Davis was arrested this past Wednesday by Scotland Yard cyber crime detectives. Davis is known by his hacker pseudonym “Topiary.” Davis is an active hacker in the groups Anonymous and LulzSec. LulzSec is claiming credit for cyber attacks that include the CIA, Sony, and News International.
Davis is LulzSec’s main spokesman. He gave media interviews and maintained the LulzSec’s Twitter account. Davis was bailed until a Crown Court hearing on August 30th under the conditions that he wears an electronic tag and does not accesses the Internet.
Nineteen year old Ryan Cleary from Wickford in Essex was also charged in relation to the attack on SOCA’s website. A 16-year-old boy from south London was also arrested. He was released pending further inquiries.
