James Cameron Is Creating Three Avatar Sequels, Starting December 2016

James Cameron, the director behind Titanic and The Terminator, is also known for creating the global hit billion dollar movie Avatar.  Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Cameron is going to create three sequels to the movie and all of them will be shot simultaneously.

The first sequel will arrive in December 2016 and the subsequent films will be released on a yearly basis after that.  Even though James Cameron was the only writer for the original Avatar, he is hiring several writers to work with him on the Avatar sequels.

Other writers that are working with Cameron includes Josh Friedman, Shane Salerno, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver.  Weta Digital will be handling a lot of the visual effects for the film, just like they did with the original.

“Building upon the world we created with Avatar has been a rare and incredibly rewarding experience,” stated Cameron. “In writing the new films, I’ve come to realize that Avatar’s world, story and characters have become even richer than I anticipated, and it became apparent that two films would not be enough to capture everything I wanted to put on screen.”
