Jawbone Acquires Visere and Massive Health

Posted Feb 4, 2013

Jawbone was initially known for developing high-end Bluetooth headsets and they have expanded further into developing active tracking products with a focus on health.  To bolster their presence in the health market, Jawbone has acquired two companies: San Francisco startup Massive Health and Portland based design company Visere.  Massive Health is known for designing the Eatery mobile application.

Massive Health raised around $2.25 million in funding from Andreessen Horowitz, Charles River Ventures, Greylock, Mohr Davidow, Felicis, and several other angel investors in February 2011.  Jawbone will maintain the Eatery app, but active development has not really happened since about a year ago.

Jawbone worked with Visere to create Jawbone’s UP iOS app.  Acquisition talks have been taking place since around July and it finally has closed.  About 25 people will be absorbed through the acquisition of the two companies.
