Four nursing students who posed with a human placenta has been kicked out of the nursing program at Johnson County Community College. The photo ended up on Facebook. Doyle Byrnes, one of the students has filed for a temporary restraining orders and a preliminary injunction at the U.S. District Court in Kansas to allow her to be reinstated before classes start again on January 19th.
Byrnes and the other students were attending a lab course at the Olathe Medical Center in November. One of the students asked the nursing instructor for permission to take a photo of the placenta and share it on Facebook. The instructor just said “Oh, you girls.” Basically the instructor did not say no or yes.
“Your demeanor and lack of professional behavior surrounding this event was considered a disruption to the learning environment and did not exemplify the professional behavior that we expect in the nursing program,” said Johnson County Community College director of nursing Jeanne Walsh in a letter to Byrnes.
