Josh Koplin Develops SCAMP To Detect and Detonate Land Mines

Posted Mar 3, 2009

Josh Koplin has travelled to several countries in the middle of a war and realized that landmines were a huge problem in those areas.  This was the inspiration behind Specialized Compact Automated Mechanical-clearance Platform (SCAMP).  SCAMP was engineered by Humanistic Robots.

SCAMP is a rolling cage with six pistons.  The cage applies pressure to the ground and uses metal disc rollers to detect and detonate mines.

There are about 100 million landmines currently on the ground currently.  These landmines are sitting on the ground across 85 countries.  The Department of Defense is currently buying SCAMPs to get them running this year.
