Kayak.com has added the option to book a hotel room directly through their website. Kayak.com used to promote hotel prices from third parties such as Hotels.com, Expedia, and Priceline. Currently the hotels feature is in limited beta and it will be available through the Kayak.com iPhone app too. Kayak.com recently filed for an IPO and it makes money by referring traffic to Expedia and Orbitz.
Expedia alone accounted for 25% of Kayak.com’s revenues for the first 9 months of 2010. Orbitz was 19%. In the first 9 months of 2010, Kayak.com earned $128 million in revenue and had processed about 469 search queries.
?Our users value that we give them choices on where to book, though some people would prefer to complete their purchases without leaving KAYAK?For people who use KAYAK?s mobile app in particular, this will make booking much easier,? stated Kayak.com CEO and co-founder Steve Hafner.
