Lexmark International Inc (LXK) Acquires Saperion For Around $72 Million

Posted Aug 20, 2013

Lexmark International Inc (NYSE:LXK) has announced that they are acquiring Germany-based Saperion AG.  Saperion AG is known for being a leading developer and provider of enterprise content management (ECM) and business process management (BPM) software in Europe.  Lexmark International Inc (NYSE:LXK) spent around $72 million to buy out Saperion.  Saperion will report into Lexmark subsidiary Perceptive Software.

“Lexmark continues to deepen and expand its content and process capabilities and solutions, which in turn improves our ability to help our customers manage their unstructured information challenges,” stated Paul Rooke, Lexmark’s chairman and CEO. “Upon closing, Saperion will be the latest software acquisition that strengthens Lexmark’s transition from being a global leader in imaging and output technology to one that offers enterprises end-to-end solutions.”

Saperion’s ECM and BPM products uses a platform-independent and multilingual architecture to make their products scalable and can be easier to integrate with ERP, e-mail, and document management systems.  Saperion has a large base of around 2,000 customers that include global accounts and medium-sized companies like Daimler, Siemens, and Vodafone.

The proposed acquisition is subject to regulatory approval in Germany and other customary conditions.  The deal is expected to close in Q3 2013.
