LG announced today that the EA9800 will be available in the U.S. at a cost of $14,999. The EA9800 is a 55-inch OLED HDTV with a curved screen, which will be sold exclusively at Magnolia stores inside of Best Buy. Right now the EA9800 will be available at Best Buy’s flagship store in Richfield, Minnesota. It will be expanded to Best Buy stores in Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco, and San Antonio over the next few weeks before being rolled out nationwide later this summer.
The LG 55EA9800 started selling in Korea this past April. It is only 0.17 inches thin and weighs under 38 pounds. The 55EA9800 uses LG’s four-color pixel system, which has a white sub-pixel that works in the traditional red, green, and blue pixels. “The entire screen surface is equidistant from the viewer’s eyes, eliminating the problem of screen-edge visual distortion and loss of detail,” stated LG.
LG said that the EA9800 is the first OLED TV in the world to hit THX Display Certification, which means that it has passed hundreds of lab tests to ensure professional display. It has smart TV features like voice and gesture controls along with 3D capabilities.
“The OLED TV experience is one that must absolutely be seen to be believed,” stated LG Electronics USA senior vice president Jay Vandenbree. “The next-generation display technology and the ground-breaking ultra-thin curved design in the LG curved OLED TV results in an experience that is destined to be the benchmark for home viewing and TV design going forward.”
