Lindsey Stone is a 30-year-old Massachusetts native that became one of the most hated people after uploading this Facebook photo. The photo is of herself sticking up her middle finger in front of the tomb of an unknown soldier while she was on a work-related trip to the Arlington National Cemetery.
I have no idea what she was thinking when she took this photo. Yesterday she was fired by her employer, Living Independent Forever (LIFE). LIFE is a Cape Cod based nonprofit organization that assists adults with learning disabilities. This is what LIFE wrote on their Facebook Page:
We wish to announce that the two employees recently involved in the Arlington Cemetery incident are no longer employees of LIFE. Again, we deeply regret any disrespect to members of the military and their families. The incident and publicity has been very upsetting to the learning disabled population we serve. To protect our residents, any comments, however well-intentioned, will be deleted. We appreciate your concern and understanding as we focus on the care of our community.
Ms. Stone worked with LIFE for 18 months and was a “good employee.” Jame Schuh was also fired, who was Ms. Stone’s former supervisor and is the person that took the photo. The two released this joint statement:
“We never meant any disrespect to any of the people nationwide who have served this country and defended our freedom so valiantly.”
This entire incident is a lesson. When uploading photos to your public social media profiles, you need to proceed with caution.
