Line, the popular messaging app, launched a marketplace in April that lets anyone create and sell their own stickers and the sales started on May 8th. The Line Creators Market now has over 80,000 creators and 12,000 sticker sets since it opened up to users.
For the first month since the service launched, around 1.7 million sticker sets were sold in all with total sales reaching 150 million yen ($1.47 million). The average sales for the top 10 selling stickers on the market reached around 4.7 million yen while 61.7% of sticker sets available for purchase have surpassed over 10,000 yen in sales.
Creators can sell sets of 40 stickers at 100 yen (around $1) per set after the graphics are approved by Line. Creators will receive 50% of the proceeds. The stickers from the Creators Market can only be bought by users in 4 countries initially – Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand.
Users that have purchased stickers from the market sent over 81 million messages featuring creators’ stickers. Line also launched a new iOS app today that combines selfies with stickers. Line Selfie Sticker lets users take a picture of their own face first and choose their favorite character from over 130 illustrations including Line characters.
