LinkedIn Corp (NYSE:LNKD) and Evernote have announced a “deeper integration” partnership today. Through the partnership, LinkedIn will be shutting down the CardMunch business card scanning app on July 11, 2014 and migrate users to Evernote. CardMunch is used to scan between 45,000 and 50,000 cards per day so many users will be affected by the change.
CardMunch users will be given the option to upload business cards using Evernote’s iOS apps. Those scans will automatically bring up the LinkedIn profile of users to add the digitized details to their Evernote contacts list. This new service will initially be available on iOS, but will be added to Android shortly after. CardMunch was a free service, but it will become premium on Evernote.
Existing CardMunch users will get free business card scanning on Evernote for two years. Evernote users who are not on CardMunch will get one year free of business card scanning if they connect their LinkedIn and Evernote accounts. LinkedIn acquired CardMunch for less than $3 million in 2011. Today Evernote has 90 million active customers and around 4.5 million are using paid services through the company.
