LivingSocial is a daily deals company that competes against Groupon. Amazon.com is a major supporter of LivingSocial as they have invested $175 million into the startup. LivingSocial has shut down their New York office at 101 Fifth Avenue and they are terminating their local events division.
The company recently shut down their Seattle offices and asked them to work remotely for now. LivingSocial’s New York staff will work remotely. LivingSocial’s headquarters reportedly took up the fifth floor, which is comprised of 60,405 square feet.
Separate office space will be provided to the company’s New York employees. This move was not because of a cost-cutting initiative. The LivingSocial local events team will be laid off. Around 30 employees are being cut.
LivingSocial is going to hire fifty new employees at their customer care call center in Tucson, Arizona. They currently have 4,000 employees across the globe, according to TheNextWeb.
