LivingSocial has reported that they were the victim of a sophisticated cyber-attack against their service. LivingSocial has started to reach out to over 50 million customers whose data may have been compromised. The data contains names, dates of birth, e-mail addresses, and encrypted passwords. The hack did not affect credit card information or banking information.
“We are actively working with law enforcement to investigate this issue,” said LivingSocial in a statement.
“We also encourage you, for your own personal data security, to consider changing password(s) on any other sites on which you use the same or similar password(s),” added LivingSocial Chief Executive Tim O’Shaughnessy in an email. “We are sorry this incident occurred.”
