“Login with Amazon” is a new Amazon.com service that will allow the company’s 200 million active customers to sign in to applications, games, and websites that is created by third-party developers using their existing login credentials.
This service is similar to what Facebook does with Facebook Connect and Google does with Google+. Facebook and Google have both seen an increase in engagement with their login services.
Amazon.com has been testing the service on their subsidiary companies Zappos.com and Woot.com. Around 40% of new customers on Zappos chose to register or sign-in using their Amazon.com account. Woot.com said that new customers chose to login with Amazon.com “two times more” than any other social login service. Those users were also more likely to place an order.
?Login with Amazon enables app developers and website owners to leverage Amazon?s trusted sign-in solution, allowing them to focus on providing a great experience for their customers,? stated Amazon’s VP of eCommerce Services Michael Carr. ?Amazon customers now have a hassle-free way to quickly and securely sign-in to apps, games and websites, without having to remember yet another password.?
Login with Amazon can be integrated into apps, games, and websites for free. The service can be integrated into apps or websites within a matter of hours and it uses the OAuth 2.0 authorization framework.
