Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan Donated $498.8 Million To Silicon Valley Community Foundation

Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is one of the wealthiest individuals in America.  Along with his wife Priscilla Chan, Zuckerberg donated around 18 million shares of Facebook stock (worth $498.8 million) to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

According to The Chronicle of Philanthrophy, Zuckerberg was the second-biggest philanthropist in 2012 after Warren Buffett.  Zuckerberg and Chan have a net worth of $9.6 billion.  The Silicon Valley Community Foundation supports education and health programs.

This is the second largest donation that Zuckerberg made recently.  In 2010, Zuckerberg pledged $100 million to create Startup: Education.  Startup: Education supports programs that improves public schools in Newark, New Jersey.

Buffett donated around $3.1 billion in 2012 to the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, NoVo Foundation, and the Sherwood Foundation.  Buffett is worth around $46 billion according to Forbes.
