McDonald’s Experiments With NFC Stickers For ‘Happy Table’

Posted Sep 2, 2013

Kids love McDonald’s ‘Happy Meals.’  Now McDonald’s is testing out how to engage kids with video games through the use of near-field communications (NFC).  This product is being called the Happy Table.  The Happy Table can turn dining tables into a virtual interactive race track.

However, kids would need to be able to access a smartphone that has wireless NFC capabilities and would need to download a free app that can turn the device into a car driven by one of the mascots of the restaurant like Ronald McDonald or Grimace.

The stickers underneath the table triggers different sections of the track.  They also offer access to other related mini games.

McDonald’s partnered with ad agency company DDB Singapore on this initiative.  The ‘Happy Table’ is being rolled out across Asia now.  Above is a video demo of how it works.
