Two Australian DJs had called the King Edward VII Hospital as part of a prank to be dispatched to Kate Middleton’s private nurse. The two DJs impersonated Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth on the phone. Mel Greig and Michael Christian were the DJs that made the call.
In the prank, they were able to fool the receptionist into transferring them to the nurse. Today that receptionist was found unconscious at 9:30AM local time and then was pronounced dead at the scene. It appears that the receptionist took her own life after the prank call was made. The receptionist was named Jacintha Saldanha.
King Edward VII Hospital released the following statement:
We can confirm that Jacintha was recently the victim of a hoax call to the hospital. The hospital had been supporting her throughout this difficult time. Jacintha has worked at the King Edward VII’s Hospital for more than four years. She was an excellent nurse and well-respected and popular with all of her colleagues.
The two DJs are being blamed as a contributing factor for the nurse’s suicide and now they have either deleted from Twitter or they had them removed. Mel and Michael tweeted from the account @MelGreigHot30. There is speculation that the DJs have been fired which is why the account has been deleted.
