Over the last 25 years, Michael Thomasson purchased 11,000 games. Thommason is the owner of the world’s largest collection of video games, according to The Guinness Book of World Records 2014 Gamers Edition. Now Thomasson is selling the collection of games in an auction if the reserve price is met.
The highest bid is now at $50,000, but the reserve has not yet been met. The collection being sold are all 10,607 games that were verified by Guinness along with 400 more games purchased since then. Guinness did not count duplicates so this figure represents unique titles. Many of the games are in mint condition and a quarter of them are still sealed.
“I operated seven independent gaming stores during the nineties and have worked for another chain for the last decade. I also operated Good Deal Games online since 1998, having thousands of games cross my path. Whenever I purchased a game that did not directly come from the distributor I was able to look through all our inventory and pick out the nicest copy of a game, including grabbing the nicest box and manual,” stated Thomasson in an interview with Game Gavel, the website where he is auctioning the collection.
The games are spread across many different consoles, including the Atari 2600, 3DO, X-System, Sega Dreamcast, etc.
