Microsoft wants to sell 16 million Windows tablets over the holiday season, according to internal documents that were received by Windows SuperSite editor Paul Thurrott. Microsoft is going to increase their retail spending this year in an attempt to achieve this goal.
Last year, Microsoft spent $241 million on their marketing for retail Windows efforts. This year, Microsoft will be spending $405 million, according to the documents. Of that amount, $131 million will be spent on incentives and offers and the other $274 million will be spent on marketing and operating expenses.
The revenues of the Surface tablet is believed to be at around $400 million in the most recent quarter. Microsoft said that they sold double the number of Surfaces this quarter that they did in the previous calendar quarter.
