Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has announced a new customer preview of Microsoft Office, which is available at office.com/preview. The new version of Office plays well with a touch-screen, stylus, mouse, and keyboard. The new Office is social and can unlock different scenarios like note-taking, meetings, and communication.
?We are taking bold steps at Microsoft,? said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said at a press conference in San Francisco. ?The new, modern Office will deliver unparalleled productivity and flexibility for both consumers and business customers. It is a cloud service and will fully light-up when paired with Windows 8.?
Office responds to touch naturally, such as pinch and zoom to read documents and author new content with the touch of a finger. You can handwrite e-mail responses and convert them automatically to text.
The new version of Office works in the Cloud too. SkyDrive lets you save documents to the cloud by default so that your content is available on your tablet, PC, and phone anytime. Your documents will be available online and sync when you reconnect. Once you are signed into Office, you will see your personalized settings including most recently used files, templates, and custom dictionary. Office will also remember where you last left off and return you back to that spot in one click.
The new Office has Yammer, SharePoint, People Card, and Skype integration. Yammer will be integrated into SharePoint and Microsoft Dynamics. SharePoint will let you view and embed pictures/video/Office content into activity feeds. People Card lets you see your contacts everywhere in Office. When you subscribe to Skype, you will get 60 minutes of Skype world minutes every month and will be integrated into Lync.
Ballmer also discussed 3 new Office 365 subscription services. Below are the three types:
Office 365 Home Premium ? designed for families and consumers. This service also includes an additional 20 GB of SkyDrive storage and 60 minutes of Skype world minutes per month.
Office 365 Small Business Premium ? designed for small businesses. This service also includes business-grade email, shared calendars, website tools and HD webconferencing.
Office 365 ProPlus ? designed for enterprise customers who want advanced business capabilities and the flexibility to deploy and manage in the cloud.
