Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has dropped the price of its second-generation tablet, the Surface Pro 2. The price drop is just ahead of the delivery of the Surface Pro 3. The price has been cut the price of certain Surface Pro 2 models sold in the U.S. by $100 each and others by $200. The 64GB Core i5 Surface Pro 2 is now $799 instead of $899. The 512GB is now $1,599 instead of $1,799.
Microsoft is selling two models of the Core i5 based Surface Pro 3, including a 128GB version for $999 and a 256GB version for $1,299. These prices include a pen, but not a cover or keyboard. The Core i3 and i7 Surface Pro 3 models are not expected until later in August.
The Core i3 and i7 models of the Surface Pro 3 aren’t due out until later in August. Customers that preordered the i5 version of the Surface Pro 3 have been notified that the devices have been shipped. Microsoft is going to stop making and will phase out its Surface Pro 2 with the release of the Surface Pro 3.
