Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is known for strong-arming Google Android OEMs into signing patent licensing deals with them. One of the latest companies to sign a patent licensing agreement with Microsoft is VOXX International Corp (NASDAQ:VOXX), formerly known as Audiovox Electronics.
This covers Voxx devices that run on the Android operating system including rear-seat entertainment devices, tablets, and consumer devices. The terms of the deal were undisclosed, but we know that Microsoft will receive royalties from Voxx as part of the agreement. Microsoft has similar deals with other Android and Chrome OS manufacturers, such as Samsung, LG, HTC, Acer, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
“Microsoft and Voxx Electronics have a history of collaboration, and this agreement further demonstrates the value both companies place on responsible intellectual property licensing,” stated Nick Psyhogeos, associate general counsel of IP licensing of the Innovation and Intellectual Property Group at Microsoft. “Licensing agreements are an effective way to share technology and accelerate innovation.”
