Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has won a $14 million patent lawsuit against Google-owned Motorola. The courts have ruled that Motorola failed to comply with fair and reasonable licensing terms when negotiating with Microsoft over WiFi and H.264 intellectual property. This is why the jury has awarded Microsoft with $14 million in damages. This lawsuit is related to an injunction against Microsoft products in Germany.
“This is a landmark win for all who want products that are affordable and work well together,” said Microsoft in a statement. “The jury’s verdict is the latest in a growing list of decisions by regulators and courts telling Google to stop abusing patents.”
Motorola won an injunction against Microsoft last year against products like the Xbox 360 and Windows 7 in Germany. Microsoft had to relocate a warehouse due to the injunction. The jury awarded $11 million to Microsoft for the costs of that warehouse alone, according to The Verge.
Motorola plans to appeal this decision.
