Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is reportedly building a competitor to Google Glass, according to sources with The Wall Street Journal. We knew since June 2012 that Microsoft was working on a Kinect-like experience in the form of smart-glasses as part of a project called Project Fortaleza.
The WSJ’s source says that Microsoft is talking to Asian manufacturers for building components for smart-glasses technology such as cameras and other key components. However, the product may not actually reach mass production.
The source say that Microsoft is ?determined to take the lead in hardware manufacturing to make sure the company won?t miss out on the opportunities in the wearable gadget market.? Microsoft has 78 U.S. patents that are related to head-mounted display and other wearable technologies.
