Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is planning on launching a new service that will place several customer service representatives in stores like Best Buy and Circuit City. These customer service reps will answer any technical questions about Windows Vista or any other PC-related questions.
“Think of that as borrowing a page from Nordstrom with that retail customer experience,” stated Tom Pilla, Microsoft Manager of Corporate Communications. Since Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has their own retail stores, they are able to provide in-store customer service in the form of “Genius Bars.” “Microsoft Gurus” will not be paid on commission, but will be measured by customer satisfaction.
The “Microsoft Gurus” project is part of the software giant’s $300 million marketing budget to improve the perception around their new operating system. The Bill Gates and Seinfeld commercial was also part of the big budget marketing campaign.
“There’s an ease-of-use I don’t think we’ve done a great job of
communicating when (customers are) using Windows and when they have
Windows in their lives,” added Pilla.
