Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has hired former Nissan Motor communications chief Simon Sproule to head up their Corporate Communications as Vice President.  Sproule will be starting at Microsoft around March 2.  Sproule will be reporting to Mich Mathews, Microsoft’s Senior VP of marketing.

This position was not filled since September.  Sproule will be replacing the position that filled by Larry Cohen before.  Cohen is now Bill Gates’ chief of staff.  Sproule worked at Nissan for 5 years before signing with Microsoft.  Before Nissan, Sproule worked for Ford Motor Company as the VP of Communications for Aston Martin, Jaguar, and Land Rover.

Sproule’s responsibilities at Microsoft will be “defining and managing Microsoft’s communications strategies worldwide, including planning and execution, public affairs, media relations, executive communications, employee communications, and global agency management.”

Sproule was born in Hampshire, U.K.  He earned a Geography degree from the University of London in 1990.  Around 2004, Sproule was recognized as one of four “Young Leaders of the Year” at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Detroit.
