According to a source with Reuters, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is in talks with media companies about licensing TV for subscription services through the Xbox and other devices. Microsoft joins the likes of Google (Google TV), Apple (Apple TV), and Netflix for streaming TV channel partners. Users would play a monthly fee.
Microsoft is also exploring the possibility of selling streaming channel silos. For example, you could pay for individual channels such as HBO or Showtime. The Xbox Live online service allows you to subscribe to ESPN. “We think the more competition the better, we will price and package it in such a way that we still make the dual revenue stream,” stated the Reuters source. “We could probably charge more for interactive advertising.”
