Microsoft Corporation is going to invest $348 million to expand their data center in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Two more facilities will be added according to local Indiana newspaper The Republic. Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell said Microsoft’s data center expansion will help create thirty new jobs in the area.
The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission is putting $2 million and the Governor?s Opportunity Fund is providing a $200,000 grant to push the project forward. Microsoft put $499 million into the data center back in 2010 and another $150 million two years ago. Microsoft Data Center Services general manager Christian Belady said that the investment and expansion will increase the computing capacity, server utilization, and software capabilities of the facility.
