Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is building a social network for enterprises called TownSquare. The social network was developed by Microsoft Corporation’s Office Labs. Today Chris Pratley, a General Manager at Office Labs spoke about TownSquare at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference in Boston, Mass. About 8,000 Microsoft employees have used TownSquare at least once, 700 visit TownSquare daily, and several unnamed customers are testing it out.
The layout of TownSquare is similar to Facebook. TownSquare has news feeds that notify when users have updated files, uploaded images, set away messages, and meeting with other employees.
“That is the kind of information that spreads through an enterprise social network,” stated Pratley. “By posting it out there, the people interested can pick up on it, and other people can ignore it. It’s a way to keep in touch in a social way with people you work with.”
