Microsoft is going to use the Bing search engine to predict the outcomes of reality TV shows. Bing will attempt to forecast the results of TV shows like American Idol, The Voice, and Dancing With The Stars by searching for data and social input from Facebook and Twitter. If you go to Bing.com now and search “American Idol predictions,” you will see forecasts for five singers.
?In broad strokes, we define popularity as the frequency and sentiment of searches combined with social signals and keywords. Placing these signals into our model, we can predict the outcome of an event with high confidence,? stated the Bing Predictions Team in a blog post.
Microsoft also considers emotionally-driven factors into how it generates predictions and accounts for favoritism regardless of how a person’s favorite singer and contestant performs from one week to the next.
