According to Chinese blog WPDang, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has decided who their next CEO is. Citing unnamed sources, WPDang believes that current Microsoft chief operating officer Kevin Turner will be succeeding Steve Ballmer as the next chief executive officer. Former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop will replace Turner two to three years later.
Elop and Turner were put on a long-list of rumored candidates to become CEO. Reuters said that the list was narrowed down to Elop, Ford CEO Alan Mulally, Microsoft Executive VP Tony Bates, and Microsoft cloud and enterprise chief Satya Nadella. Turner was not mentioned by name in the short-list. This past September, Ballmer said that Elop was a great candidate to replace him.
It is believed that Turner would be responsible for making the transition needed for Elop to take over the company permanently easier.
