Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has hit a major web milestone. Microsoft has surpassed 20 million users for Office Web Apps, which was released this past summer. Office Web Apps include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Google created Google Docs & Spreadsheets three years ago and they offered similar services called Document, Spreadsheet, and Presentation. Google Docs was free and was even tied to Gmail accounts. Google Docs & Spreadsheets has about 25 million users so Microsoft is catching up at a rapid pace for the office-services-on-the-web market.
Microsoft Office Web Apps may also be downloaded to the desktop and can be used with Microsoft Office too. This is different from Google Docs, which only works when being online.
