Microsoft Corporation will be phasing out the Windows Live Messenger service to focus on Skype as their primary instant messaging service.  Windows Live Messenger will shut down in early 2013.  Microsoft will integrate their 100 million Windows Live Messenger users to Skype after the service is discontinued.  Tony Bates of Skype said “We will retire Messenger in all countries worldwide in the first quarter of 2013.”  The only exception is mainland China.
