Microsoft Corporation announced today that the Xbox 360 will get the exclusive console launch rights for the Redbox Instant Service throughout the beta period and for the launch. Microsoft did not reveal when the service would arrive for the Xbox, but they said it would be here “in the very near future.” If you are already a tester, you will get an e-mail with a unique code to access the app on the Xbox 360.
Redbox Instant is a service that is priced at $8 per month for DVD or $9 per month for Blu-ray and it combines a four one-night credits (per 30 days) for the latest movies in Redbox kiosks.
The Redbox Instant Xbox 360 app lets fans purchase and rent digital releases without a subscription requirement. However an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription and or additional subscriptions including a Redbox Instant by Verizon subscription may be required and sold separately. Redbox is talking to a lot more partners and is planning to be on all the devices that consumers access their entertainment.
