Mobile Ad Company, Smaato Raises $3.5 Million

“Our technology helps existing mobile ad sales networks extend their reach into the mobile world,” stated Harald Neidhardt, Smaato’s CMO.

Smaato Inc. is a San Mateo, Calif.-based, mobile ad network that has a platform called Smaato Open Mobile Advertising (SOMA).  Smaato aims to do for mobile phones through ads as Google is doing for web sites.  A list of some of the clients that Smaato has signed for trials and roll outs include Allianz, Toyota, Microsoft, Mercedes-Benz, Martini, and Weekly Intouch.

Smaato recently closed a $3.5 million round of Series A funding from several angel investors.  Smaato’s SOMA platform can deliver ads across phones that run on JAVA, Symbian, Windows Mobile, and Palm’s OS.  Aeris Capital AG also participated in this round of funding.
