Consumers are starting to prefer using mobile applications to pay for their Starbucks coffee. Mobile payments have crossed the 10% mark in the United States across the Starbucks mobile app, Apple Passbook, and Square Wallet.
Starbucks has recently installed Powermat wireless charging mats at about 17 locations as part of a trial service. One of the trials took place in Boston and it will be added to several locations in Silicon Valley throughout the month of August.
Starbucks made the mobile payment ratio in their most recent quarterly earnings. Starbucks reported that their profits were up 25% and key sales trends in the U.S. rose 9%. This is considered their best ever fiscal third quarter earnings.
