The Fifth Estate is a movie based on WikiLeaks and the principal photography for the movie started last week. The film will star Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange and Daniel Bruhl as Daniel Domscheit-Berg (known as the spokesperson for WikiLeaks). Bill Condon will be directing the movie. Condon previously worked on films like Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and Dreamgirls.
There are two books being used for the film’s content: My Time with Julian Assange at the World’s Most Dangerous Website (written by Daniel Domscheit-Berg) and WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy (written by David Leigh and Luke Harding).
The film will go into the early days of WikiLeaks that led up to the release of the Afghan War Diary in July 2010. The film is expected to arrive in November 2013.
“It may be decades before we understand the full impact of WikiLeaks and how it’s revolutionized the spread of information. So this film won’t claim any long view authority on its subject, or attempt any final judgment. We want to explore the complexities and challenges of transparency in the information age and, we hope, enliven and enrich the conversations WikiLeaks has already provoked,” stated Condon.
