After Nest launched the Nest Learning Thermostat, the company had received a lot of feedback and positive reviews. The company has just launched their next generation product with new features, more compatibility, more apps, and a new design. The 1st generation can still be upgraded to the same 3.0 software that the 2nd generation Nest Thermostat comes shipped with.
The 2nd generation is 20% thinner than the original and is built with premium solid stainless steel that reflects the wall colors around it. The sensor grille at the bottom of the original Nest has been replaced with a smooth lens.
When you remove the display, you will notice that installing the device to your home has become much simpler. The easy-to-use press connectors makes it easier to insert heating and cooling wires even faster. The screw holes have been moved to the top and bottom to make installation simple as well.
The new Nest system works in many more homes now. The company has received a lot of requests about compatibility for two stage cooling and dual fuel systems. Now the 2nd generation Nest Learning Thermostat is compatible with 95% of low voltage heating and cooling systems including 2nd stage cooling, 3rd stage heating, dual fuel, emergency heat, and whole-home humidifiers and dehumidifiers. Nest also has trained their Concierge professional installer network to install Nests for homes with humidifier and dehumidifier systems. You can learn more about the Nest Concierge installation here.
Nest 3.0 Software
The Nest 3.0 software makes it possible so that every WiFi connected new and existing thermostat will get 3.0 software. This means enhanced auto-away, more languages, auto-schedule in heat and cool mode, Android tablet apps, and a System Match technology that activates specific features like True Radiant, Heat Pump Balance, Early-On, and Filter Reminders.
You can buy the new Nest for $249 from nest.com/store, Lowe’s, Amazon.com ($229 for a limited time), and the Apple Store.
