Online streaming service Netflix will soon start running an original television series from Dreamworks Animation. The terms of the deal was undisclosed. This multi-year agreement will be the biggest deal for original first-run content and it will include over 300 hours of new programming. This deal expands on an existing relationship between Netflix and Dreamworks.
Netflix recently debuted several new original programs like “House of Cards” and the fourth season of “Arrested Development.” This past December, Netflix announced that they will be offering Disney movies starting with movies that are released in 2016. Netflix did not make a similar deal with Sony movies.
The Dreamworks deal will be inspired by characters from franchises like “Shrek” and “Kung Fu Panda.” Netflix will also feature movies and the Classic Media library that Dreamworks Animation acquired last year.
Netflix is going to air the first series in 2014. The series will be shown in the 40 countries that Netflix is available in. This past February, Netflix announced that the first original series for kids will be based on the movie “Turbo,” which is arriving in theaters next month. The series will be called “Turbo F.A.S.T.” starting in December.
Starting next year, Netflix customers will have access to some of Dreamworks’ newest movies like “Turbo” and “The Croods.”
