Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) recently won their first Golden Globe through “House of Cards” and now they have been nominated for an Oscar for the first time. Netflix’s original program “The Square” was the show behind the nomination. The 2014 Oscar nominees were announced this morning.

The Square is premiering on Netflix this Friday and it highlights the revolution in Egypt including the overthrowing of Hosni Mubarak (2011) and Mohammed Morsi (2013). The Square was nominated for the Best Feature Documentary Oscar. Other programs nominated for this category includes The Act of Killing, Cutie and the Boxer, Dirty Wars, and 20 Feet from Stardom.

Last week, Netflix won a Golden Globe award for Robin Wright’s role in “House of Cards.” Netflix’s House of Cards was also dominated for Best Drama, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor.

Netflix bought The Square in November after the film saw some success at film festivals. Netflix acquired another documentary called The Short Game, which is about golfers that made it to the World Championships of Junior Golf.

“House of Cards” also was the first Internet-only show to receive an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama. Netflix was nominated for 14 Emmy awards for House of Cards, Arrested Development (Season 4), and Hemlock Grove.

The Square was produced and directed by Jehan Noujaim. The film won the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival People’s Choice Award for a Documentary and the Audience Award for World Cinema in the documentary category at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.
